About the Artist
Naomi Assenheim
It was not surprising when Naomi learnt that
both of her great grandparents were jewellers more than two
generations ago. Inspired through the unconscious, Naomi has
embarked on a personal and spiritual journey, exploring her
relationship with the earth and the stone world, connecting the past
to the present.
Opal Wing Creations brings to life the ancient mysteries and magic
of Mother Earth through handcrafted jewelry made from rare precious
and semi-precious gemstones, fossils, metal, feathers and sea
shells. Each exclusive design reflects a delightful mixture of
contemporary work, with ancient methods and a legendary story. ~from her spirit to yours~
Many would agree that Naomi’s creations are designed to speak to the
heart, adorn the body and nourish the soul. Wearable and whimsical,
each handmade creation symbolizes and honors the untouched, organic
beauty within the natural materials she uses. Standing the test of
time, no two pieces are alike. Each piece culminates the age old
tradition of hand-forging metal jewelry, with a modern touch, and a
holistic appeal that radiates the wisdom of the gemstones and their
natural healing abilities.
Naomi’s silver and carving
training began in Baffin
Island, the Canadian
Arctic where she trained
with renowned Inuit
artist Matthew Nuqingaq and then journeyed to Mexico, learning the
transformative and spiritual qualities of amber, turquoise, opal,
jade and jasper. Living and studying in Chiapas, Naomi explored
ancient Mayan, Aztec and Zapotec legends- an inspiration found in
many of her designs.
As a world traveler and graduate of
Native Studies at Trent
University, Naomi has
become an avid collector
of fossils and stones,
and rarely misses the
opportunity to embark on
the adventure of finding
her own Gemstones. She
has now completed two
successful searches for
Ammolite, a rare and
ancient gemstone
deriving from the
ammonite fossil. Naomi now offers
her customers these precious stones featured in much of her work.
Naomi’s Studio is currently located at the Williams Mill Gallery and
Visual Art Centre, where she carefully designs and Handcrafts all
her jewelry into stunning pieces of wearable art. Contact Info:
